Producing quality work while limiting costs is a daily challenge for all paving and road construction contractors. Projects must be completed efficiently without compromising on quality. Chemtek, Inc. provides innovative solutions that improve efficiency, reduce material costs, and are safe for the environment and worker reducing risk and limiting the potential for EPA and OSHA fines. Let’s take a look at how two of our products in particular- NeSilex and PavePro – are smart solutions to improve operations and reduce costs.

NeSilex

Reducing respirable silica dust is a major concern in the construction industry today. Respirable silica dust is an extreme safety hazard for workers and surrounding civilians. Water delivery systems are commonly used to control dust at job sites; however, one of the main drawbacks of using water alone for silica dust suppression is the amount of water needed for effective dust control. A study by NAPA found that in milling operations, water output had to be more than doubled to achieve a respirable dust level below OSHA’s permissible exposure limit. Material, labor, and transportation costs associated with doubling water output in milling machines and in other dust producing activities are significant. Increasing water usage at the construction site also creates more slurry and can lead to additional clean-up costs. OSHA has mandated that construction companies address respirable silica dust hazards, but simply drowning the problem with more water is both ineffective and inefficient!

NeSilex, a silica dust suppressant, was designed to be added to existing water systems to make water more efficient and effective at controlling respirable silica dust. NeSilex drastically cuts down the amount of water needed for respirable silica dust suppression. By chemically changing the composition of water droplets, the silica dust particles are attracted to the water, as opposed to being repelled by it. The water then encapsulates the harmful particles, keeping them from becoming airborne. The power of the chemically altered water particles is so strong, less water is needed to suppress silica dust.

A little product goes a long way! Only a small amount of NeSilex is needed to alter hundreds of gallons of water providing effective dust control. Eliminate the threat of OSHA fines due to silica dust, reduce the amount of water needed for effective dust control, and prevent pesky slurry issues by integrating NeSilex into your operations

PavePro Green

Asphalt build up on tools and equipment is inevitable in the paving industry. A good release agent and cleaner can provide tremendous labor cost savings and improve machine operations and efficiency. Unfortunately, many cleaners and release agents simply do not work well and most carry additional hazards with high flammability and low biodegradability.  Diesel fuel, the trusted industry standard for asphalt removal has been illegal for use as an asphalt cleaner for over 20 years. Citrus alternatives are considered RCRA hazardous wastes and boast very little (if any) release power. Additionally, citrus cleaners have a high evaporation rate which means hot paving environments require constant product reapplication. The threat of fines and associated hazards of using either citrus or diesel for asphalt removal coupled with the amount of product needed to get effective cleaning or release power make these inefficient solutions.

PavePro is the most efficient and effective solution for asphalt removal. Its high evaporation rate allows it to work harder and longer than competitive solutions. It boasts twice the cleaning power of alternatives and tackles the toughest polymer-based asphalt mixes with ease. The high evaporation rate of PavePro allows it to leave a thick, oily film on tools and equipment preventing asphalt build up over a long period of time. In a hot-mix shovel test, PavePro kept asphalt from building up for well over 50 shovels of asphalt. When the same shovel was pre-treated with a citrus alternative or diesel fuel noticeable build up occurred after only 37 and 35 shovels of asphalt, respectively. Reducing product re-application offers significant product and labor cost savings. As an added bonus, PavePro 100% biodegradable and safe to use reducing the risk of fines.

A hidden cost of keeping asphalt cleaners like citrus or diesel fuel, at a construction site is the potential for costly spills. If one of these products is spilled on freshly laid mat, the only choice is to mill up the asphalt and re-pave. PavePro offers a unique benefit that eliminates this risk. The cleaning power of PavePro can be deactivated with water, if PavePro is accidently spilled on paved road, douse the area with water and no asphalt degradation will occur.

With labor and cleanup constituting a large portion of construction costs, it makes sense to choose PavePro  – a highly concentrated solution that needs only one application to thoroughly remove built up asphalt while also preventing asphalt from re-adhering. Save money by using less product over time and increase worker efficiency with fewer reapplications.

Conclusion

Managing construction sites and projects is challenging. Let us help you improve efficiency WHILE reducing costs. Our products, NeSilex and PavePro, truly provide the best value while saving precious time and money.
